Figure Series

I began paying attention to mother nature’s curves. After a terrible fire cleared the forest where I live of all the oaks and pines I noticed that my yard suddenly had an amazing view and the sublimely subtile contours of the coastal rolling hills of California rhymed incredibly with the female form. The series of paintings called ‘Odalisques’ are at first glance vastly lit moody landscapes with a surprise double take of a naked body out in the elements, low in the foreground. In ‘Dream Dance’ the figures get up from the ground and parade in progressively dynamic ways, with the paintings ‘Elen’s Circus’ becoming energetic to the extreme and even acrobatic.
